RESULTS OF THE OLD HOUNDS

Fajt:

Fajt was shown just once in his life and by that time he was only 8 months old, so he had to be entered in Puppy Class. It was his breeder himself who handled him and he seemed to be very pleased.
For many long years afterwards we kept the three red ribbons on the wall over Fajt's feeding place and my father was mighty impressed with his results and boasted about what a handsome hound he was.
Although we never understood the mystery of what had happened to his tail that day. At home it looked "happy" and crocked like a banana, but in show it was perfectly straight and erect.

Toke:

Toke´s qualifications is not much more impressive than Fajt´s. He was entered in show just two times more, twice in the Beagle Club´s spring-show and once in the Swedish Kennel Club´s national show in Köping.
Actually he was a handsome dog who should have earned much more credit, but he was not properly trained for it. The picture above to the left shows how shy and reluctant he was.

  • The first time he was one-year-old and refused to let the judge put the measuring-rod on his back. Hence he was awarded a 2nd prize. His critics were rather good, though - a nice type of hound, medium size, needs more training, pleasing head, nicely balanced body, moves well in front and behind.
  • The second time was one year later. Then he was more successful and was awarded a 1st prize, HP and CK (swedish for Quality of a Champion). The critics said - compact hound, would like more foreface, good bone, neat feet, good depth of brisket, muscular thighs, moves well.
  • The final time was a disaster. He neither wanted to walk nor stand. All he did was looking unhappy and barking after his mistress.

Maidi:

Maidi was used as breeding bitch, so of course she was highly qualified. Annica Lindström has kindly provided me with the results from the official dog shows she took part in.
Her best result was a CACIB and BOB in SKK´s show i Jönköping on the 5th of May 1984. By that time she was 3 years old.
Furthermore she was awarded four CKs and eight 1st prizes in Open Class. As she never took part in a field-trial, she was not qualified to participate in Hunting Class, the single possibility for a swedish hound to be Champion.
After her move to Katrineholm she was sadly enough shown just once. This once was also in Köping, in the same show as her son Toke. She was rather unwilling, but at least she was awarded a 1st prize in Open Class and was the 2nd best bitch in Veteran´s Class.
Her critics were very brief and concise - 36 cm, moderate angulation in front, good in rear.

Sniff:

  • Sniff was shown rather frequently and normally awarded a 2nd prize. In the spring-show in Taxinge, where Toke got his CK, he was however awarded a 1st prize and after that glorious moment he was allowed to retire with credit.
  • He was good at agility, but he never competed.
  • As a tracker dog he was excellent, but he never entered a blood-track trial.
  • His results from obedience trials are better not mentioned at all.

Skutt:

Skutt took part in dog shows as well as in obedience trials.

  • He did well in obedience classes I, II and III. During the years 1989-92 he got several certificates. He almost earned the title Champion, but got attacked during a trial and never recovered completely from this horrible experience.
  • There are 25 notes of critics in his diary of competitions - 15 of those from official shows. His best results was as BIS in Puppy Class and (much later) BIS in Veteran´s Class. Otherwise he was mostly awarded either 1st or 2nd prizes. Once even a CK - to his owner´s contentment and pride.
Recurrent words in from the judges were - excellent head, good brisket and back, moderately angulated, paddling movements.
Sometimes he had a good day and then his movements improved, but the common judgement about him was, he was too little and stiff in the front.
  • In the Dog Club´s unofficial shows he was however a lot more successful. As time went by and he got more experienced, he could call himself Swedish Champion. This is not an official title, but he was still a beautiful hound.
  • Skutt was a good tracker dog, but - like Sniff - he was never entered in a trial to prove his ability.
  • Given a bit of training Skutt could surely have worked as a circus dog. He had the talent, a tireless eager to please and he certainly loved to perform.
