SOME EVENTS OF 2005

BIRTHDAYS

Tumle turned 7 years old and became a veteran.

Mille turned 5, which must be considered a grown-up age for a dog, but he continued to act as the eternal "puppy", Tumle's irresponsible younger brother.

REMARKABLE EVENTS

 Angel Dog 1:
The 20th of January we were reached by the sad message that Mille's auntie Mica had passed on to the Heaven of Dogs. she was in the dignified age of 14 years.

 Angel dog 2:
The 4th of February it did not work out any longer for Cille. Our sweet Beagle girl had to leave us and walk over the Rainbow Bridge.
Until the end she was a joyful, vivid and curious little dog, but she could not keep her food very well, her mucous membranes were damaged and her skin full of eczematous rash, so we had to make the hard decision to let her be put to sleep before her suffering would grow worse.
Thank you little darling for the short time we got the pleasure of your company!

After Cille's death there were turbulence in our pack and the same night Tumle ran away on a private 3-hour-hunt in the forrest north of Katrineholm. He was driving with good and loudly bark for about an hour. Then we have not got a clue what he was doing out in the mysterious darkness, but at least he was able to find his way back. Finally we found him and brought him home in a totally exhausted state. One of his front paws was sore and swollen, looking like a pink fungus, twice the size of the other, so sometimes the sinner gets his punishment at once.

The wonderful, sunny 3rd of March we where taking a three-hour-trip over the ice of lake Nasnaren. Tumle was proudly pulling his sleigh. Take a look at the pictures here.
Mille had a mild epileptic fit, presumeable triggered by the intense light over the snowy ice, but he was soon on his feet again, running around just as happily as before.

During the first month of summer there were lots of thefts in the area where our allotment cottage was situated. We were spending our early mornings waiting for the thieves, but they never turned up again...which was maybe the best for us all.
Somewhat later that same summer we were starting the great project of moving of red cottage to another garden. Our part of the area was going to be closed down and the neighbours left, one after another, so it felt a bit desolated. The 17th of September we were finally ready to leave. There were very much hard work to be done, but in the end it was worth it, as it turned better than ever before.
All of this is pictured in our album of Mogetorp. There are no english version, but the photos speak for themselves.

Tumle got seven new little half-siblings due to his father Cosby. This is what they looked like on the 3rd of September, when they were seven weeks old.

Little half-sister Jaffa got six puppies in the middle of August. This was her second litter.

Early in October, when they were seven weeks old, we all went to Vagnharad to look at them and take photos. Tumle and Mille were also there, but they had to stay in our car.
Pictures of the puppies are to be seen right here!

This summer Mille caught and killed his first prey, a black vole. He really worked hard to bring it out, energically digging, putting his nose deep down in the hole, snorting horrifyingly. Finally, by coincidence, he stepped on its back and broke the spine. All of us were equally astonished and hardly believed it was true. Not to mention the vole itself - it kicked its legs a couple of times and then it just passed away.

RESULTS

The 14th of August Tumle sent warm congratulations to his Weimaraner "stepmother" Hella, who (in the mature age of nine) was nominated BOB in the Swedish Kennel Club's International Show i Norrkoping.

The Beagles did not participate in any show 2005.

HEALTH

Tumle's paws (but strangely enough not Mille's) could not endure the sharp gravel which was used for sanding the streets. We tried creams and ointments, foot-bandage and dog shoes, most of them rather ill-fitting, but nothing relieved his pain, so at last we took him to the vet who prescibed a cure of antibiotics, specially designed for furuncholosis...totally ineffective, but at least we were able to exclude that disease. He had a bad limp all the spring and half the summer, before it gradually ebbed away as his pads healed.

Tumle had also some problems with his back. My bike was about to overturn when we were preparing to go home from our allotment garden and Tumle took a quick leap, not to get hit by the frame. Next morning he was stiff and in pain, seeming quite lame in his hind legs and moving very unsteadily. We were fearing for a bad case of slipped disc - this was the way it looked - but lucky enough he got better and after a couple of weeks he had made a complete recovery.
