Starmaids Easy Rider
Born 22 March 1998

Tumle is exactly the same as eng. Tumble. It is a name which
describes its owner, who was tumbling around a lot when he was a pup.
But it is also a mix of "Toke" and his late fatherīs name "Humle",
sometimes used as a nickname for Toke in the earliest days of his youth.

There was never a puppy more welcome than our little Tumle, but the first time I heard about him, I was not at all interested. It was merely a coincidence that he happened to move in with us.
After Skuttīs death I called his breeder, to tell her he had passad away and then she told me something like: "Iīve got a puppy for sale right now."
I was not ready for a new puppy yet...and so I told her, but she was persistent. She said, at least we could come and look at it, and I agreed - what a luck that I did!

Skutt had been gone for less than a month and I missed him so much I felt totally empty inside, so the outcome of our visit was already predetermined. Tumle was only 6 weeks old and it was actually love at first sight. I remember picking him up from the floor and looking into his sweet little sleepy face. Of course it was him I wanted - all my resistance was suddenly gone.
This happened on May the 2nd and 18 days later he was ready for delivery. It was the longest 18 days I have ever endured in my life, but Tumle was worth waiting for. He was such an adorable pup.
In the beginning he yelled like a fog-horn in the car and it took 6 months to get him housetrained, but in spite of that he was so lovely, there has never been somebody like him...and he is still a lovely dog. He is the nicest little creature one can imagine, but he is not too soft. If something does not suit him he gets just as stubborn as a pure-bred beagle should be.

Tumle has lots of hunting in him, but I am afraid of the traffic...and of him getting lost, for that matter. I would never be able to forgive myself if he got run over by some maniac who could not control his vehicle. Instead I start him on blood-track trials, which at least is a form of hunting. Besides he runs with the bicycle, pulls a nice little cart in the summer and a red plastic sleigh in the winter.
He is fond of playing with other dogs - especially when they play hunting games - but he is even able to wrestle and play hard, without losing his temper.
In the company of people he often seems a bit shy, but when he has finally decided they are friendly and will not harm him, he uses to rise on his hind legs and kiss them tenderly around their eyes.

When Tumle entered our household, the only dog left was Toke and Toke was 12 years older, so Tumle could never play with him. Of couse he had many other pals in the part of the town where we live, but still it was a happy event for him when we bought his young nephew, Mille. Then he got the good friend and ally, he had needed for all his life.
Tumle and Mille is always together and seem to enjoy each otherīs company very much.
